These are 7 questions we had to ask our mentor during career day:
What in your educational background most prepared you for this job?
* He was a part time teacher and helped out with many other teachers for a long time until he became an actual teacher and had his own classroom with his own kids.
What specific skill training helped you prepare for this job?
* He had to work with different teachers for a long period of time and he also had to take many classed, credentials, reading strategies.
How do you interact with other people during your work?
* Both 3rd grade teachers work together and check in with each other about there projects. They create and do the same projects but in different classrooms.
To what extent do you find your work interesting and fulfilling and why?
* I find it interesting because everyday is a different day. I find this job very fun because this school is very creative.
What are the most important rules or practices that you must follow in order to be considered a dedicated and responsible professional?
* Caring for kids and caring for there learning. Also by knowing the classroom management and setting boundaries with kids.
Is this a typical work day for you? If not, What is a typical work day?
* Today wasn't a typical work day because we had 2 helpers walking around the classroom helping the students out and we also had testing which we don't normally do that everyday. A normal day is when we work on our projects, read out loud and just do classroom work.
How was career day?
Career day wasn't as I expected, It wasn't as interesting because most of the time they were testing and working on there essays so it wasn't a normal school day for them since they also had 2 more teachers in the room helping out. Once I walked in, I introduced myself to the classroom and the teacher and then I sat down and had to email a picture that i took to prove that I'm here and send it to one of my teachers. After 2-3 hours of sitting, I deiced to walk around the classroom and help the students out with there essays about immigration since they were doing a big project on that topic. After that they had Undocumented immigrates come in and shared there story about why and how they came to the U.S. It was pretty surprised because they were learning the real truth of immigration in such a young age. Last year for career day i shadowed a first grade teacher and it was very different from this one. I found many differences because one of the schools were a public school and the other one was a charter school. I noticed that they had less students in the classroom, younger teachers and more technology in the classroom. After shadowing two different schools made me realize that I wouldn't want to be a teacher in the future, becoming a teacher would be my last choice.
