Throughout my 3 years of high school, I've been building up how my next 10 years of life would look like. Throughout those years, my mind kept on changing back and forth and it still is going on with what I want to do with my life and which college would be the perfect fit for me. For the past 3 years, I've made so many mistakes but I know there's many more to come for the next 10 years. I was always told, "Mistakes is what made you who you are right now" it makes you become someone better. The only way to have a successful path is to learn through your mistakes and know what to improve on even though you might repeat those mistakes all over again because some mistakes are harder to fix and learn through. Since freshmen year, the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and it has been my dream school because of the environment, they're one of the most highest rated medical schools out there. Even when my mind kept on changing, I never wanted to change my mind on majoring in health. To become a nurse I will need a high school diploma, an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) which I will need to attend to a 4 year university. A registered nurse with a Bachelors degree often have better job opportunities than those with only a diploma or an associate degree in nursing. After getting my Bachelors I will have to enroll in a RN to BSN program which will take about 2-3 years. I know this isn't going to be easy, nothing ever is but the frontal lobe which is a part of my brain will help me get through it since it controls my memory so I won't create the mistakes I made again and the frontal lobe also includes intelligence, movement and behavior which will all help me move forward. One of the strategies I'll be using throughout college is not being afraid to explore new study techniques because I know college is going to be way different from high school especially when I came from a high school that is a project based and college is more independent work that I will need to work on.
Safety School: Cal State San Marcos California
GPA: 3.42
Average: 3.28
SAT Average: 1076
Acceptance rate: 52%
I chose Cal State San Marcos California as one of my safety schools because my gpa is a 3.42 and I reachers their average gpa which is 3.28 and their SAT average isn't that high compared to my reach school (UCSD) average SAT. Their acceptance rate is 52% which is pretty high appearance rate compared to other competitive schools out there. However, Cal State San Marcos offers medical programs that I'm really interested in since I want to major in health and to able to get my Bachelors degree as a registered nurse.
Best Fit: University Of Redlands
I chose University of Redlands as one of my top colleges because their Average gpa 3.44 which is really close to my gpa 3.42 and they're acceptance rate is 7% higher than Cal state but their SAT Average score is higher which is 1169. However, Redlands is a private school which is apart of my interest and they also have a pre-health and pre-nurse programs that will help me meet the requirements for medical school.
GPA: 3.42
Average: 3.44
SAT Average: 1169
Acceptance rate: 58%
Reach School : University Of California San Diego
I chose University of California San Diego as one of my top colleges I would want to get accepted in because their one of the top best medical schools out there and health is one of the majors I want to major in. UCSD has a very small acceptance rate of 33% which is a really selective school but I'm willing to give it a try. Although their gpa is a 3.84 and their SAT average score is 1306 which is higher than I expect mine to be, UCSD is a dream school that will be a blessing to get accepted to because it will take me far to many opportunities that I'm willing to challenge myself for.
Your GPA: 3.42
Average: 3.84
SAT Average: 1306
Acceptance rate: 33%
I interviewed one of the students that graduated from UCSD because I wanted to see in there point of view on how it was to be a UCSD student:
"Once you get to college, it's going to be very different since most of it is on your own and free time but also being able to find time to study and being able to figure out when and where is a best place to. A lot of it is making mistakes and allowing yourself to make mistakes and learning not to do it again. As long as you learn your mistakes and learning from them then I'll be perfectly fine but if you keep repeating the same mistakes then everything will just go down. If you're failing then you're able to go to office hours or even talk to your own professor about it to make a difference."
My 10 year plan:
2018 -2019;
By 2018 later on that year, I will have a list a colleges that I will be applying for and by 2019, I'll be hearing back from them and eventually pick the top college I will want to attend to which is a huge step in my life.
2020:
By 2020, It's a new beginning, a new life. Hopefully I will be living on campus, getting used to the environment around me but also getting used to the student life. By then I'll be applying for more scholarships since college will be very expensive to pay for especially when it's going to be a 4 year university.
2021-2024:
By 2021, I'll be majoring in medical field and by those 4 years, I'll be graduating and earning my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) or my Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) but I'm better off getting my (BNS) because it will give me better job opportunities.
2025-2027:
After earning my bachelors, I will have to enroll in a BSN program which will take about 2-3 years and after that I'll complete my BSN degree which will help me get hired at a clinic and will help me develop this passion especially if I want to go towards my masters degree and my Ph.D.
